There has been a whole lot of raw creativity happening around here lately. Deeeelicious.
I am immensely grateful for all of the little sparks of inspiration that have opened me to raw food possibilities, just as I am for those sparks that guided me to this way of parenting with my whole heart.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Do you ever feel like you might just weep from the beauty of it all? Let yourself slip back into that place of wonder. It is always there, waiting for you. Always.
If you are intrigued by raw food, here are some of my current favorites. It may just be true that raw food brings greater energy, higher vibration, clarity, stronger intuition, and sense of peace. Eating live food. ahhhh.
Two new books on my shelf are:
The Raw Food Gourmet: Going Raw for Total Well-Being by Gabrielle Chavez
Raw Family (A true story of awakening). This family is remarkable and shares many incredible resources for you to check out.
The Garden Diet another family shares stories about their raw lifestyle with children.
Ok. Now for some recipes.
Live Fries
Cut up large jicama into pieces that resemble french fries.
Mix with 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp paprika and 2 tbsp olive oil. Salt to taste.
Raw Brownies
You can use any combination of nuts and dried fruit that you like. Soak the nuts for at least a few hours, possible overnight, as well as the dried fruit. My recent batch included almonds, walnuts, sprouted sunflower seeds, figs, dates, raisins and lots of carob powder along with raw honey. Mix and taste until you like it. Then spread onto dehydrator sheet and dry for 12-14 hours, taking out while still pliable. Cut into squares.
Raw Granola
2 cups Buckwheaties (soak buckwheat sprouts overnight then let sprout for 2-3 days, rinsing twice a day), then dehydrate for 8-10 hours.)
1cup raisins or currents
1 cup coconut (I don't think mine is technically raw, as most commercial dried coconut is heated above 104degrees. You can dry your own fresh coconut if possible.)
1-2 cups Sunflower sprouts
In blender combine 1-2 fresh apples chopped, 1/2 cup raw honey, 3 tbsp coconut oil, with some water. Mix with dried ingredients. Adjust to taste. Optional: add vanilla or cinnamon and sprinkle of salt
Spread on dehydrater sheets and dry for 12-14 hours. You can also add other nuts and seeds as you like.
Salad as-a-meal
The enormous salad meal has been so satisfying. Big bunches of basil, parsley, swiss chard, spinach, pickled garlic, olives, sprouts, buckwheaties for crunch and just a basic dressing of fresh lime juice, nama shoyu (raw tamari), salt, and drizzle of maple syrup. Sometimes I make it more chunky (sprouts, seeds, nuts, chopped veggies) then wrap it in romaine leaves for a thai kind of flair. ahh. Eating from the Earth, indeed.
Those are a few for you. I hope you enjoy.
Thank you for being part of the awakening of this world. It is such a treat to BE here with you.

I recently bought Ani's Raw Food Cookbook, by Ani Phyo (I think). The most satisfying recipes for me have been the desserts. I made a fake cheese cake this morning, and it seemed to semi satisfy Asa's and my sweet tooth. It feels so much better to know that he is eating a better version of sweets. I plan to do some more experimenting.

A Book that I have been reading that I really recommend is The Live Food Factor by Susan Schenck- lots of great information and a section with recipes as well. And I am about to get The Complete Book of Raw Food on Ebay- I borrowed it from the library a while ago and it is definitely one to have in your own library!!! So many awesome recipes!
I am LOVING starting my day with fresh, organic fruit- I feel so refreshed eating a pint of strawberries or a canteloupe- I can feel full, but still light. Unlike when I eat cooked (as I have been for dinner lately), I feel full, but very uncomfortable. Tonight- raw zucchini pasta with red sauce, I have been looking forward to this meal all day!
