One of the things I love so much about living an unscheduled/unschooling life is that you get to see what shows up and then follow the curiosities as far as you choose. Today, it was baby squirrels.
We came upon a college guy named "Pete" who had rescued five babies who lost their mama. He had kept them alive for a day or so and was out on the front lawn when we passed by. We brought two of them home with us. I mean really, just look at them. (Though it's true I've had several moments of thinking I am totally out of my mind.) But the look on Elliott's face when he is holding them (as we plead with Saschy girl to be gentle) tickles my tummy. Not to mention the mere idea of any creature waiting around for a mama that never shows up, well that is just too much for to bare, right? Once that mama love has been turned on, there is no shutting it off, ever. Even when it comes to squirrels.
So here they are.
Tomorrow we will go in search of a teeny bottle and some pig formula (thanks to a friend's mama who has done this before). And to keep them going tonite? well...breastmilk in a syringe. (Thanks for sharing, Saschy-girl.)
