Grandmothers really are just that...grand mothers. Grand in so many ways...They know what they know from years of living, they are less attached to how the children "turn out" and more interested in delighting in each moment, they are in love with our children.
Today is our last day of grammie time and it is bittersweet. Our time has been full of play: stories, baseball, shopping trips for new shoes, lunches out, long solo runs for mama, and more. Elliott and Saschy are crazy about her and the initial frenzy of "where's grammie" has settled out into more of an easy rhythm of the four of us together. It's a funny thing that Tim's mom and I have spent so much time alone together because her visits happen in the summer when he is gone on fires. We stay up late talking about knitting and food and life. We trip over each other in the kitchen.
What has struck me this visit is the experience of having another woman in the house. It is remarkable. She sees what I see...the laundry that needs folding, the dishes that need washing, the cherry tomatoes wanting to be picked. She has the same internal clock that tells her when to start thinking about making food for little bellies. She asks about cutting off crusts and how thickly to spread the butter. She even gets a little testy with me when I serve her the plate of apple pie because she has spent years serving others before herself. She is uncomfortable having anything done for her.
It makes me miss my own mama. and my sister. and my soul-sisters too.

I love your description here. It's so spot on! <3 and light today and always!

I really like this post. I especially like the part about having another woman in the house--isn't that relaxing and nice.
