as far as holidays go, ours has been remarkably simple and easy. just the four of us, at home, with lots of skype-ing and calls and texts to those we love far away (even just a few blocks seems far in the hunkering down of chilly days and family magnetism). it's so different from the chaos of travel and extended family being together. both ways have joys which are so very different from one another. this year, though, i've been especially glad to keep it simple because we've been sick.
i've been determined to ignore it in myself for several days. a combination of stoicism and practicality, i guess. so much other stuff i'd rather do and eat. a case of not accepting reality. as i took a few sips of mulled wine (the perfect holiday drink, right?) i could feel my throat soreness spread. and sugar, of course. after being free of it for awhile, it was so obvious to me how tough it is for the body to deal with. but did that stop me? nosiree. as much as i might want to be health queen throughout the holidays, when it comes right down to it, the draw of gingerbread cookies delivered to neighbors (and gobbled at home) is mighty strong.
so here we are, snotty and coughy and crabby. thankfully i think i guessed the right remedies for the kids since they seem to be healing quickly. i used this helpful chart. homeopathy is such a miracle. we haven't been in touch with our incredible doctor as much of late because of budget issues, so i'm doing my darndest to figure it out more on my own. oh my, when i get it right, wow.
now that we are through the big days of treats, we are also bolstering our immune systems with chicken broth and a big dollop of ghee as well as a raw egg yolk or two. that healing alchemy along with many cups of ginger tea, echinacea, and rest will help us befriend our bodies once again. and you know what? i have no regrets...holiday treats and the cozy, connected feeling of carrying on traditions from my own mother are something i adore.
wishing you health and vigor in these days following, friends.
Hope you feel better soon
sending you much love and blessings

darling friend so sorry to hear you are under the weather. add a little garlic and honey to that ginger tea if that feels right. i just put a whole clove in with the water and ginger and let it steep for a good 30 minutes. hope that helps. love and miss you.
